Comments from Former Fellows about the Program

"As a young careerist, the KP Postgraduate Administrative Fellowship was an essential bridge to developing and enhancing my professional management skills, and testing my understanding of the complexities in delivering health services as it relates to medical group practice within an integrated health delivery system. There were many informal mentors I came across throughout the organization and they encouraged me to utilize the Fellowship as the time in my career to gain a diverse perspective from all levels of the workplace. In the two-year span of my Fellowship, I actively sought a variety of opportunities which were both challenging and exciting to me. Such opportunities included the ability to participate in the National Bargaining process, manage an ambulatory outpatient surgical department, and support the efforts of our regional Community Benefit program. The success of the Fellowship program truly lies in the hands of the participating Fellow, but working for the right organization and a leadership team that is committed to developing their future workforce is vital."

"During the Administration Fellowship program, I experienced many different challenges, cultures, and opportunities. I selected a rotation in our regional office financial performance group to strengthen my budgeting and financial analysis skills. I enjoyed the experience and as a result, accepted a permanent position in Financial Services at the completion of my Fellowship. The rotation opportunities afforded by the Administrative Fellowship program exposed me to an interesting career path with numerous opportunities that I was not considering directly from graduate school."

"The KP Fellowship was instrumental in enabling me to develop my analytical and management skills as well as providing me a more in-depth understanding of how the different players in healthcare interact. I was able to customize my fellowship experience based on my interests and explore multiple facets of healthcare including quality, new ventures, and department management, all in less than two years. The breadth of experiences gained during the fellowship has been invaluable in my professional and personal growth. In addition, one of the greatest benefits has been the relationships developed with the other Fellows across both Northern and Southern California, and with the many mentors I've encountered in the organization. "

"My decision to participate in the Kaiser Permanente Postgraduate Fellowship in Health Care Administration was made in large part because of the variety of experiences it would grant me. During my time in the Fellowship, I led and participated in operational efforts at the department and facility level, as well as strategic, “big picture” efforts at the regional level. I also had the opportunity to work with and learn from outstanding leaders in the organization. The experience enabled me to experiment, test myself, and further examine my interests and strengths. Today I am in role that is just the right fit for me, and it is an opportunity I would not have found were it not for my Fellowship experience."

"The Kaiser Permanente Fellowship Program was an outstanding way to begin my career in health care administration. The program provided an excellent opportunity for development. Even better though is the peer group of Fellows that you join. I learned a great deal from my peers and developed relationships that will last for the rest of my career."
