Advancing Kaiser Permanente’s mission
Kaiser Permanente actively develops future health care leaders by pairing mentorship with hands‑on experience and meaningful exposure across the enterprise. Thanks to visionary leaders and dedicated preceptors, the Administrative Fellowship has grown into one of the most competitive and respected programs in the United States. Through meaningful project work and executive mentorship, fellows develop a comprehensive understanding of how clinical care delivery, health plan operations, and hospital management work together.
Administrative Fellowship alumni serve in leadership roles across the organization, advancing Kaiser Permanente’s mission to provide high-quality, affordable health care services and to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve.

Our history
In the late 1980s, Kaiser Permanente senior leaders and graduate internship preceptors reimagined how to prepare future health care leaders. They saw a clear need for longer, more immersive post‑graduate experiences. At the time, KP offered a one‑year internship at South Bay (Harbor City) Medical Center, but regulatory shifts and changing academic requirements began to limit its impact—opening the door for a stronger model.
The Kaiser Permanente Administrative Fellowship Program launched in 1988 as a regional and service area rotation-based model giving fellows broad, hands-on experience across the organization.
